Company update: Human Resources

This time of year reminds me of all I have to be thankful for – health, my family, our home, and, of course, our '57 Chevy! I'm also thankful for the warm welcome that I've received since joining the company last month. It truly has been my pleasure to work with our leaders and employee-owners to learn more about our the services we provide – and to begin the process of determining what our organization needs from the human resources (HR) team as Symbria continues to grow at a rapid pace.

In this update, I want to share information about HR team member changes that took place before I joined the company on October 11. I also want to highlight projects we're working on as the calendar year comes to a close, including the processing of 2016 tax information and the coordination of a new community service project.

Team member promotion
During the second quarter of our fiscal year, Benefits Specialist Lisa Grek was promoted to HR Generalist. In her new role, Lisa provides general HR support for all employees who work for our pharmacy and rehab employees in IL, IN, MO, OH, and WI.

New HR team member
On October 3, Amara Kennedy joined the HR team as our new Benefits Specialist. She has more than 12 years of HR and benefits experience, including her most recent position as a Benefits Specialist for a large home care company. Amara is now the day-to-day specialist for benefits administration and management and the primary contact for all benefits-related questions and support.

Year-end tax information
The HR and Payroll teams are getting ready for the end of the 2016 calendar year, including the processing of tax forms.

  • W-2 forms. To help ensure that you receive your W2 in a timely manner, all employees – including those who track time in Casamba – should log in to ExponentHR to verify that their demographic information is correct before December 31. We also suggest that you review your federal and state tax withholdings and make any desired changes while you're in ExponentHR.

  • Form 1095-C. In compliance with the Affordable Care Act, HR will continue to provide a statement of health coverage to all employees by February 1. Form 1095-C will include information about the healthcare coverage offered to you – and your dependents, if applicable – during 2016. Please note that you may need to submit information from this form as part of your 2016 personal tax filing.

Coat Drive
I hope you received the email announcing a company-wide community service project running from November 21 through December 16. We are collecting gently-used coats for Hesed House, a shelter that helps homeless individuals and families in Aurora, IL. Collection boxes in the corporate office lunch room in Warrenville and at the pharmacy in Woodridge will accept gently-used coats, gloves, scarves, hats, and boots for men, women and children. Symbria team members in other locations can donate money to www.onewarmcoat.org/donate to support outreach efforts nationwide. Please include our assigned coat drive number, which is 16-1169, in the Comments section so our coat drive is credited.
