Home Health Insider – March 2024 Edition

Frequently Asked Question of the Month

Can a home health therapist provide therapy 5x/week?

Yes.  Medicare does not restrict a patient from receiving skilled therapy services 5x/week when it is medically necessary.  While the term “intermittent” is used and defined by Medicare in relation to nursing services and home health aide services, Medicare does not use the term intermittent for therapy services.  Per the Reasonable and Necessary requirements, the services must be consistent with the nature and severity of the illness or injury, the patient’s particular medical needs, including the requirements that the amount, frequency, and duration of the services must be reasonable.
